Community Corner

Postby Peteparker » Wed Jul 07, 2010 6:05 pm

So there's a small spot on everyone's homepage that allows the admins of the Wiki to post messages to the community. I hardly ever notice it, but the default message was bugging me.

In an effort to see exactly how much of the community has noticed/notices this area, I added a button that adds signatures to a page I'm watching for every person. If you read this area, and notice the button, please participate. The idea seems like it'd be a good way to reach people, but without this data we won't really know if people do... :)

I think I might have corrupted the results by not remotely noticing it on the page you linked to, and instead just noticing it in the recent changes. Damn my need to corrupt studies.

Though I really love tests like this. It's fun to see how big an audience something's really reaching.

I have to admit,I wouln't have seen it if I hadn't read about it here... does my vote count as corrupt as well in that case? ;)

Eigh, I don't think so, but maybe. I get the feeling that if you've read about it here now, you'll probably stumble upon it again in the future, now having noticed it.

It doesn't look like it's noticed too much, really only one contributor I don't recognize on the list. It's too bad, makes you wonder how we could put a message out that isn't so intrusive as a site message, but is still seen by everyone.

Maybe we should run the same test on the site message and see how fast that page populates?

This is an interesting tool. Maybe we can even use it to show new tools as well as quick polls on "do you think we should do this..." types of issues.

I like that idea. Purely so we have something to gauge THIS test against. Besides, if we get roughly the same number of people responding to a site message as we get to this, then we can safely rule out the site message as a truly viable means of communicating with the masses. Or it proves most of the people checking the site don't want to create Wikia accounts...or are lazy.

Because of this I clicked on it, but like I said when I signed it, I never actually visit my 'Home' page, so I'm never going to pay attention to it.

It's probably time to close that page, and see what kind of response we get with a site message.

Here's the new signature page, for anyone who'd like to follow it.
