Sorry for the Wikia/MediaWiki confusion. I stand corrected... :)

It was early when I came up with the template idea. I agree it's not the most elegant solution in the world -- do you have any other suggestions?

I was referring to Eetmi's workaround working based on case sensitivity. Though, apparently, I misunderstood him. Your workaround is better than I could have come up with.

I think our new system still needs work. I went through to try to update the new images from the old, and it was a lot of work to make things right.

Wouldn't it be easier just to upload an entirely new image and mark the old one to be deleted then?

But what if the current image is at the right naming convention, but is just too small, damaged, or of bad quality? Then you'd have to delete the old image, and then move the new image to the old image's naming convention, losing the original person's credit for uploading said image (even if it's damaged, ANY image is better than NO image).

It's a safe bet that a vast majority of the older images are not using the right naming convention. One of the new books that came out last week, someone (I forget who) uploaded a new cover (the ones with text) and didn't use the right naming convention. But for the few odd instances where the correct naming convention is being used and we want to upload a better picture, we can use the reupload template. So how about this...

If the image is NOT using the correct naming convention, upload a better image using the correct name, replace all instances where the old image was being used with the new name, and then tag the old image to be deleted.

If the image IS using the correct naming convention, then use the reupload template so the admins can the correct the image. Probably the easiest way for them to do that would be to download the new image to their HD, delete the old image, the reupload the new image with the old name.

Sound okay to everyone?
